The Mayer senior team
Mayer International owes its strength to its team of highly motivated, experienced and qualified individuals. Our work philosophy is built on the principle that when you work together cooperatively and share new discoveries, you never stop learning. It means we can keep pace with the rapid rate of change in the world of engineering practice while harnessing individuals' broad experiences across a variety of fields surrounding the field of bulk materials handling. Outlined here are the backgrounds of senior personnel from that team.
Helmut Mayer
Executive Director
Qualifications - B.E.-Aerospace (Hons 1) B.SC.–Psyc UNSW
Registered RPEQ 6516
Under Helmut's direction, and with his expertise in design, structural integrity, fatigue, risk and reliability, as well as strong vision and commercial skills, Mayer International can make a broad and valuable contribution to developing your bulk materials handling solutions.
After beginning his career as a commercial pilot, Helmut studied aerospace engineering, obtaining 1st Class Honours, while simultaneously completing a degree in psychology. With these diverse early activities and studies, he not only gained valuable insight into mechanics and structures, but also into the human processes that drive engineering and allow abstract ideas to eventually be created into reality.
Together with his father Hans, Helmut founded the company in 1986. Applying his diverse skills he quickly rose to become the company’s Principal Engineer. Today, as the company’s Executive Director and responsible for all commercial, engineering and statutory issues, he is passionate about Mayer International’s ongoing progress and development. His primary aim is to ensure the company delivers the highest level of design, management and other professional services to you, our clients.
Murray Slatter
General Manager
Qualifications - B.E. - Electrical; MPM (USyd)
Murray Slatter joined Mayer International in 2006 and was charged with the development of the Project division, newly separated from the design office to provide clearer and more extensive Project Management services in house and to clients. His first task was to put in place a deliberate bridge across the gap that can exist between engineering experts, the information requirements of managers and the commercial needs of clients. By focusing on up-skilling the engineering workforce in project management practices, Murray implemented improvements not only in the company’s project management competency, but also in its operational structure and overall performance targeting.
After being appointed recently as General Manager, Murray now focuses the organisation on project delivery and ‘Engineered Life Cycle Asset Management’ which ensures greater long-term value for money for Mayer clients.
Before joining Mayer, Murray managed a large engineering firm. His role included the implementation of a sweeping reform agenda which resulted in the doubling of revenue and net profits over a two year period.
His engineering career had begun in the television industry, where he was involved in major projects by the television networks in the lead-up to the introduction of digital television. Murray controlled several multi million dollar projects including complex TV tower and satellite transmission upgrades.
Theo Lutterbeck
Senior Mechanical Engineer
Qualifications - BSc(Tech), MEngSc, FIEAust, CPEng
Theo has widely varied engineering experience. For 10 years was the Managing Director of an engineering company specialising in mining machinery, materials handling and minerals processing equipment. Prior to this he had 23 years of design experience, including five years as Chief Draftsman and three years as Chief Design Engineer.
Theo has expertise in the design and development of new equipment for the mining and minerals processing industries, pollution control equipment and bulk materials handling plant including ship loaders and stackers. He has received a number of awards, including the UNSW Harbin Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association Prize for Mechanical Engineering Design. He has also lectured part-time at the University of Technology at a post graduate level, and at the University of Western Sydney where he has been teaching mechanical design, statics, mechanics and computer integrated manufacturing.
With his extensive engineering, management, teaching and mentoring skills, he is a much appreciated member of the Mayer team.
Deyan Stjepanovic
Senior Mechanical and Project Engineer
Qualifications - B.E.-Mechatronics B.Sc.-Physics
Since completing his degrees in Mechatronics and Physics, Deyan has gained considerable experience in the engineering industry. He began his career as an Engineering Assistant focused on equipment design and quickly moved on to become a Development Engineer specialising in special purpose machine design for production.
Deyan is committed to furthering his skills, and has attended a number of training seminars aimed at increasing his knowledge on software, engineering and people management. Deyan is a key member of the Mayer team, focused on the design of structural and mechanical equipment and on guiding through the construction of the equipment he designed as a Project Engineer on site. Deyan's versatile experience, dedication, attention to detail and friendly attitude see him able to assist in all facets of equipment supply from project planning and design in the office through to construction and commissioning on site.
Rakesh Patel
Senior Mechanical Structures Engineer
Qualifications - B.E.-Mech MEngPrac
After completing his Bachelor’s degree in India, Rakesh joined a design and manufacturing engineering company, focusing on bulk materials handling equipment. In this role, he helped design crushing plants, concrete mixers and other construction equipment.
On moving to Australia, Rakesh joined Mayer International where he could utilise his skills in and knowledge of the bulk materials handling field. At the same time, he completed a Master of Engineering Practice degree at the Wollongong University. Since becoming a member of the Mayer team, he has become heavily involved in plant design, plant layout and task management and quickly progressed to become an independent designer capable of being charged with high levels of Engineering responsibility.
